Have you ever tried tempeh? Here is a simple recipe for people who have not much experience with tempeh yet, but want to get started. It will guide you through every step and few tips and tricks you should know about tempeh.
Ingredients:
8 oz tempeh
1 ½ - 2 tbsp olive oil
salt to taste
Directions:
-
Cut your tempeh in desired shapes, the thinner the better.
-
Heat oil in a pan.
-
Once hot add tempeh and fry until golden brown on both sides
-
Place tempeh on a plate lined with paper towel and sprinkle with a generous amount of salt.
-
Serve with steamed veggies and favorite sauce/s.
Notes:
-
Some people find tempeh very dry so serving it with some kind of sauce is almost always better. Barbecue, peanut butter glaze or teriyaki sauce are great for tempeh!
-
Before frying, slice your tempeh crosswise into thin pieces or cut the block in half horizontally, to increase the surface area that will get browned.
-
You can also steam your tempeh first for about 10 minutes. That makes the tempeh more tender and the flavor comes out more that way. Once steamed, you can follow the recipe from step one on.
