Do your kids like buckwheat? The flavor of buckwheat is a little earthy, nutty and can taste very bitter. Lots of kids will naturally dislike those flavors and decline a dish with buckwheat. This recipe turned the bitter buckwheat into a sweet and tasty meal. The prunes and apples along with the spices give this porridge the perfect natural sweetness. Sprinkle with diced pecans and you have a perfectly balanced meal the whole family can enjoy.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup buckwheat

  • 4 cups water

  • 3 cups apples, diced

  • 1 cup prunes, diced

  • ½ tsp cinnamon

Buckwheat Porridge

Directions:

  1. Add all ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil.

  2. Bring to a boil and simmer on low for 15 min simmer with lid.

  3. Remove the lid and simmer for another 10-15 minutes stirring occasionally to avoid burning on the bottom.

  4. If you like it sweeter, add homemade apricot jam.
